Right to health and specific groups

Everyone should enjoy the right to health without discrimination. Yet, some groups experience specific issues in enjoying this right.

These difficulties may arise from and may be related to different aspects, for example, biological, social or economic factors.

example Only women can get pregnant and give birth, thus certain medical procedures have to be provided for and are undergone only by women, not men.

example In addition, women are often subject to gender bias. Women’s health complaints may not be given enough attention due to stereotypical views (such as women being overly emotional and affected by hormones).

example The key health-related challenge faced by prisoners may be the difficulty in accessing proper medical care in due time.

This is why the right to health should be tailored to each group that may experience difficulty in getting proper protection.

Sometimes specific groups of people may be given priorities or privileges, with regard to their enjoyment of the right to health.
